This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

For Immediate Release:

New Paltz, NY (11/24/2025) - New Paltz Rescue Squad (NPRS) recently contracted with Ulster County to significantly expand its coverage area and established a new strategically placed station on Route 32 in Modena, NY. For this new location, they are in the process of adding vehicles and staff to support a 24-hour BLS (Basic Life Support) Ambulance as well as a 12-hour, daytime ALS (Advanced Life Support) Fly Car to its response system. Beginning on January 1, 2026, these response units will be contracted to answer medical 911 calls in the Town of Modena and surrounding areas.

In January of 2024, NPRS expanded service to the Town of Lloyd when the need arose for EMS coverage at an affordable and sustainable cost. NPRS is leading the way in supporting the community and area residents with the exceptional emergency medical care they deserve. “Our call volume has more than doubled over the last two years, and thanks to our incredibly dedicated staff, we have maintained a 98% response rate,” added NPRS Chief and CEO, Matthew Goodnow. “Our goal has always been to provide the best possible care for our community. We will continue to grow carefully and responsibly to maintain the unwavering mission of NPRS.”

Over the past few years, Ulster County officials have seen an increasing need for additional EMS coverage and response to underserved areas. With volunteer agencies struggling to staff and equip their outfits, Ulster County has formally requested that NPRS expand its service area to meet the need. NPRS and Chief Goodnow, recently hosted County Executive, Jennifer Metzger, and other Ulster County Officials for a press conference outlining their resolve to meet that request (UC EMS Press Conference). This new service model is both innovative and efficient and will allow well-staffed and equipped EMS agencies to better serve their community residents, especially in the more rural and underserved areas of the county.
