Manchester, Vt. — October 20, 2026 — Manchester Fire Department personnel practiced vehicle rescue techniques on Tuesday evening, utilizing specialized equipment to extract passengers from damaged cars.

Firefighters trained using a portable winch, rescue jacks, Hurst cutters, and spreaders. Emergency responders use these tools to move, stabilize, or remove damaged vehicle parts and create access for medical personnel.

The exercises allowed members to practice operating equipment and coordinating efforts in preparation for motor vehicle crashes with trapped occupants.

The department expressed gratitude to Paul's Towing, specifically to Jason, for donating vehicles for training purposes. Firefighters can practice techniques in realistic conditions and become more familiar with rescue challenges by having vehicles available for hands-on exercises.
