Charlestown, R.I. — October 28, 2026 — Future Day at Chariho High School featured a presentation by the Charlestown Fire District about volunteer firefighting opportunities and their junior membership program.

Students were taught about volunteering as firefighters and exploring a career in the fire service. The event also provided the district with an opportunity to attract young individuals interested in learning about emergency response.

The Charlestown Fire District is looking for junior firefighters between the ages of 14 and 17. The district’s official membership details state that junior members are 14 to 18, and with notarized parental consent, can join training and firefighting activities in a limited capacity, based on the incident.

Pupils outside the Charlestown Fire District might also have choices. The district asked students to reach out to Ashaway Volunteer Fire Association, Dunn’s Corners Fire Department, Richmond Carolina Fire Department, Hope Valley-Wyoming Fire District, Cross’ Mills Fire Department, and Charlestown Richmond Fire Department about junior membership programs.
