Andover, Mass. — October 7, 2026 — Andover Fire Rescue Engine 1 and Ladder 1 practiced drawing water from a static source at Field Pond in Harold Parker State Forest to supply a fire engine.
Firefighters can draft water from a pond or other static source, moving it into the engine’s pump. This approach proves valuable when hydrants are absent, requiring crews to secure water from alternative sources.
During the evolution, Engine 1 flowed nearly 1,000 gallons per minute through its master stream, also known as a deck gun. The exercise provided members a chance to practice water-supply operations and run the apparatus while drafting.
