Deep River, Conn. — October 7, 2026 — Wednesday night, the Deep River Fire Department ran a drill on fire hydrant operations. The session gave junior and new members practical experience in preparing a hydrant for emergency use.

The training covered the tools and techniques for preparing a hydrant and the required equipment firefighters take from the apparatus. Members also assessed the importance of clear communication with incident crews and pump operators.

Hydrant operations play a key role in creating a dependable water supply for firefighting. Connecticut Fire Academy training materials detail hydrant preparation and communication procedures for water supply readiness, enabling pump operators to coordinate subsequent actions.
