Wyoming, N.Y. — October 10 —  Firefighters and emergency medical staff partnered with Wyoming Central School during Fire Prevention Week. Students learned about emergency response gear and local first responders' work.

Students received a warm welcome from Wyoming Hook & Ladder, who hosted an educational tour featuring direct exploration of fire trucks and firefighter gear.

Assistant Chief Mike Smith, Firefighter Kyle Pietrzykowski and Safety Officer Jack Moore displayed the apparatus equipment to students and detailed its use in emergency situations.

Darlene Phillips, an auxiliary member, also helped on the visit by distributing fire prevention materials to the students. The Warsaw Fire Department Rescue Squad helped out by delivering an ambulance to the school. Assistant Chief Gary Smith gave students a close-up view of the ambulance and its equipment, helping them better understand emergency medical services.

The visit showed cooperation between fire and EMS agencies and the key role community outreach plays in emergency services.

Fire Prevention Week gives departments a chance to teach younger residents about fire safety, show them emergency equipment, and introduce them to first responder work.  School visits let firefighters and EMS staff connect with the community ahead of any emergency.
