City of Batavia Firefighters Combine Ladder Maintenance With Breast

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Firefighters in Batavia, New York, marked Breast Cancer Awareness Month by wearing pink-accented department shirts while carrying out routine station duties and equipment maintenance.

On October 2, Batavia Fire Department members used the good weather to clean the ladders and wear this year's breast cancer awareness shirts.

The program stresses how emergency response organizations can help with community outreach aside from their regular duties. October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time focused on educating the public, promoting early detection, and offering support to those battling the disease, their survivors, and their families.

Department members also used the initiative to acknowledge those battling breast cancer, recognize survivors, and commemorate those who passed away from the illness.
