Silver Creek, NY - Volunteers from the Silver Creek Volunteer Fire Department visited the classrooms of Silver Creek Central School on Wednesday to deliver hands-on fire prevention education and build vital trust with local elementary students.

The outreach program, conducted on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, formed part of the department's ongoing Fire Prevention Week activities, focusing on foundational life-safety habits that protect families during emergency situations. Firefighters walked young students through the essential steps of recognizing smoke alarm sounds, navigating safe primary and secondary egress routes, and avoiding potential household fire hazards.

Beyond technical drills, responders placed major emphasis on overcoming childhood fears during dynamic emergencies. Personnel demonstrated their full turnout gear and self-contained breathing apparatus, directly showing students that firefighters in protective equipment are approachable helpers rather than figures to run or hide from in smoke-filled rooms.

Department leaders commended the administration and teachers at Silver Creek Central School for prioritizing fire safety curriculum, emphasizing that empowering students with early knowledge transforms them into ambassadors of prevention who bring vital safety practices directly home to their families.
