Cuba, N.Y. — October 6 — Members of the Cuba Fire Department visited Cuba-Rushford Elementary School as part of a fire prevention program that featured basic fire safety education, demonstrations of protective equipment, and tours of fire apparatus.

Firefighters provided explanations on basic fire prevention methods and demonstrated how they put on their protective gear before responding to emergencies. Students also had the chance to tour the fire vehicles, which allowed them to see the equipment used during emergency calls and learn more about the work carried out by the fire department.

The program involved participation from the Clarksville Volunteer Fire Company Inc., New Hudson Fire Company, Farmersville Fire Department, and Ischua Fire Department. This joint visit brought together multiple local fire departments to support fire safety education for the students in the community.

School visits enabled firefighters to discuss safety in a familiar environment and help children understand the role of emergency responders. The demonstrations of protective gear also helped students recognize that firefighters wear specialized equipment to protect themselves in dangerous situations.

The New York State Education Department requires schools to provide instruction on fire and arson prevention, injury prevention, and life safety during the school year. The state also encourages schools to collaborate with local fire departments and other community resources to support such education.

The visit on October 6 highlighted the importance of cooperation between schools and local fire departments in raising fire safety awareness among children.
