Wellsville, N.Y. — October 4 — Members of the Wellsville, New York Volunteer Fire Department participated in the New York State Interior Firefighters Operations class held at the Wellsville Training Facility. During the training, firefighters practiced ventilation techniques and roof operations.
Wellsville 9 supported the training by allowing participants to gain experience with skills used during structural fire responses.
The ventilation training enabled firefighters to learn how to handle smoke and heat effectively, while roof prop exercises provided hands-on practice with procedures used during roof operations.
The department also planned its annual fall dry hydrant training for Wellsville 2. However, the originally scheduled training location was unavailable, so members had to relocate the exercise to the river access area in Yorks Corners.
At the alternate location, firefighters practiced pump operations and hose line deployment.
These activities helped keep members familiar with equipment, water delivery, and hose handling during emergency situations.
The Wellsville Fire Department often conducts hands-on exercises to prepare its members for fireground assignments.
Past training sessions have covered hose line advances, apparatus placement, search and rescue techniques, and initial fire attack.
The October 4 training session enabled members to continue their learning despite the access issue. The exercises helped maintain firefighter readiness by integrating state-level instruction with practical practice on pump and hose line operations.
