Slingerlands, N.Y. — October 15 — Members of the Slingerlands Fire Department carried out a water operations training session on October 15, 2026. The drill focused on handling flowing water, using master stream appliances, and managing water supply operations. The training took place at a pond located in the Kensington Woods development, with the permission of the Masullo brothers.
During the exercise, firefighters had the chance to practice transferring water from a nearby source and using the equipment typically involved in fire suppression. They worked on improving their skills in controlling water flow and operating master stream appliances, which are specifically designed to provide a high volume of water during large-scale incidents.
Water supply is a vital aspect of fireground operations, especially when crews need to support multiple hose lines or operate large-volume equipment.
Ponds and other static water sources can serve as an alternative to traditional hydrants when municipal water supplies are not available or are restricted.
The department has previously participated in regional training sessions that involved using portable ponds to supply water to fire engines, ladder trucks, and master stream devices.
These exercises enable firefighters to gain experience in moving water, setting up equipment, and working together across different units.
Regular water supply drills help firefighters prepare for situations where maintaining a continuous water flow is essential for effective fire suppression.
The Slingerlands Fire Department expressed their gratitude to the Masullo brothers for allowing the use of their pond and for their support in the department’s training programs.
The training reinforced the importance of hands-on practice and collaboration with the community in ensuring that emergency responders are well-prepared and ready to act effectively.
