Trumbull, CT - Firefighters from the Long Hill Volunteer Fire Company advanced their technical rescue capabilities by hosting a comprehensive, 40-plus-hour Connecticut Fire Academy Rope Rescue Technician course.
The multi-weekend certification program, recognized on Monday, October 12, 2026, equipped department members with specialized proficiencies required to operate at complex, high-angle, and confined-space rescue scenes. Personnel trained on advanced mechanical advantage systems, high-line rigging, anchor point evaluation, and low-angle patient packaging to optimize the heavy rescue gear deployed on frontline apparatus.
Volunteer members committed more than 40 hours of personal weekend time to complete the physically and mentally demanding curriculum. The certification standard aligns the department with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) technical rescue benchmarks, ensuring crews can rapidly establish vertical evacuation systems in ravines, construction sites, and structural collapses.
Department leadership praised the volunteers' selflessness and dedication to operational excellence, underscoring that this advanced credentialing significantly enhances life-safety readiness and emergency response resilience across Fairfield County.
