Cambridge, VT - Firefighters from the Cambridge Fire Department conducted specialized power tool training Thursday evening, using a controlled environment to practice safe and effective chainsaw operations.
The training evolution took place on the evening of Thursday, October 15, 2026, on location at the Town of Cambridge Gravel Pit. While power saws are not deployed on every incident, department personnel routinely train on them to maintain tactical proficiency for roof ventilation during structural fires, post-storm storm damage mitigation, and roadway hazard clearance.
Firefighters focused on proper personal protective equipment (PPE), saw inspection and safe startup protocols, reactive force management, and precise cutting techniques under the supervision of senior members.
Department leadership noted that practicing with specialized rescue saws in a relaxed, non-emergency setting allows members to build muscle memory, identify maintenance needs, and refine tool safety without the pressure of an active emergency scene.
