Riverton Duty Crew Practiced Vehicle Rescue Techniques

Riverton, N.J. — October 5 — Members of the Riverton Fire Department spent Monday evening participating in vehicle extrication training, engaging in hands-on exercises meant to prepare their team for incidents involving vehicles where people are trapped.

During the training, on-duty personnel practiced methods for safely and effectively extracting individuals from damaged cars.

The session also allowed firefighters to gain more experience with their extrication tools and review the steps taken during rescue missions.

Vehicle extrication often involves teamwork between firefighters, emergency medical staff, and other emergency services.

Crews need to evaluate the extent of the vehicle damage, recognize potential dangers, secure the vehicle, and choose the right tools before starting the extraction process. Good communication and careful coordination are essential to ensure the safety of both the injured person and the responders.

Regular practice helps firefighters keep their skills sharp and review equipment usage before dealing with real emergencies.

Hands-on training is especially important because vehicle models, accident scenarios, and access to patients can differ in each incident.

The Riverton Fire Department is a volunteer organization that provides emergency services to the Borough of Riverton in Burlington County. The borough's official website classifies the department as a volunteer fire service, and the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs lists the station's location at 505 Howard Street, Riverton.

The training also helped reinforce the department’s dedication to supporting nearby communities when needed.

By keeping their rescue procedures up to date, the members of the department aim to stay prepared for emergencies throughout Riverton and the surrounding area.
