Mount Laurel, N.J. — October 15 — The Mount Laurel Fire Department concluded its second week of Fire Prevention Month activities on October 15, continuing its efforts to educate young residents on fire safety. Firefighters engaged with children through community outreach events, sharing information that helps them identify fire hazards and learn how to react during an emergency.
The department’s fire prevention education is a key component of its overall mission to safeguard lives and property through emergency response, inspections, and public awareness. Based at 69 Elbo Lane, the department operates three fire stations and provides services to residents and visitors across the entire township.
School visits and community programs allow firefighters to explain important safety measures in a manner that children can easily understand. These lessons may include recognizing smoke alarms, avoiding matches and lighters, knowing two escape routes from a house, and identifying a safe outdoor meeting spot. Families are also encouraged to practice escape plans and ensure smoke alarms are working properly.
The department’s outreach initiatives during Fire Prevention Month played a vital role in fulfilling a core part of the fire service’s mission: reducing risks before emergencies occur.
By directly engaging with young residents, firefighters fostered early awareness of fire safety and reinforced the department’s ties with the community.
Fire prevention education is an essential part of public safety throughout the year, not just during the month of October.
