Wrightstown, N.J. — October 5 — Members of the Jacobstown Volunteer Fire Company and the North Hanover Fire Prevention Bureau visited C.B.Lamb Elementary School on October 5 to conduct a fire prevention assembly for students, covering important safety topics tailored to each grade level.

The session included lessons on safe battery charging, general fire safety, and the importance of practicing fire drills at home.

The battery safety portion was in line with the National Fire Protection Association's Fire Prevention Week campaign, which emphasized safe charging habits and reducing the risk of lithium-ion battery fires.

Students also had the opportunity to watch a demonstration by the New Jersey chapter of the National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA). The demonstration illustrated how fire sprinklers activate in response to heat and how they help contain fires, giving students a hands-on look at the role sprinkler systems play in protecting people and property.

Another important part of the program focused on home fire safety. The National Fire Protection Association advises families to plan two escape routes from each room, keep smoke alarms in working condition, and select a safe outdoor meeting place. Practicing a home escape plan helps children understand what steps to take if a smoke alarm sounds.

This school visit showcased the community education efforts undertaken by volunteer firefighters beyond their emergency response duties. By teaching fire safety at an early age, Jacobstown volunteers and fire prevention officials helped students gain knowledge they can share with their families.

The event also gave students an introduction to the public service role of firefighters and the significance of community involvement.
