Shamong, N.J. — October 15 — Members of the Indian Mills Volunteer Fire Co., which serves Shamong Township, carried out a rescue training exercise centered on vehicle extrication during their Thursday evening training session.

The firefighters practiced rescue techniques by methodically dismantling a vehicle to mimic the process of removing individuals who are trapped following a motor vehicle accident. This exercise enabled the team to gain experience with rescue tools, follow proper safety protocols, and enhance teamwork during complex rescue scenarios.

Hainesport Enterprises, Inc. (HEI) contributed to the training by donating two vehicles annually for the company's Fire Prevention Night event. One vehicle was used for a live extrication demonstration during the community open house, while the other was set aside for the subsequent Thursday training session with the firefighters.

The donated vehicles allowed the fire department to practice extrication techniques on real vehicles, rather than just relying on classroom learning. Training in vehicle extrication equips firefighters with the knowledge of rescue equipment and teaches them how to handle damaged vehicles safely while preparing to extract trapped individuals.

Indian Mills Volunteer Fire Co. expressed gratitude to HEI for its ongoing support and contributions to firefighter training. The company, located at 48 Willow Grove Road in Shamong, has been serving the township since 1942, as stated on its official website.
