Lafayette Township Fire Department Wins Four Honors at Sussex Parade

— October 3 — Volunteer firefighters from Lafayette Township collected multiple honors at the Sussex County Firemen’s Association’s 106th annual inspection day and parade, which was organized by Sussex Fire Department.

In 1938, Lafayette’s Sanford pumper won Best Overall Antique Fire Apparatus, and the department’s engine earned second place in the Engine, 21 Years and Over category. Lafayette was also recognized as the Best Appearing Small Company, and Lafayette EMS was named the Best Overall Ambulance.

Awards followed preparation by department members and highlighted the care taken to maintain the company’s apparatus and preserve its history. The 1938 pumper is a key element of Lafayette's fire service legacy, symbolizing the service of many generations of firefighters in the township.
