A Little Polish, a Lot of History: Vernon Takes Second in Antique Category

— October 3 — Fire departments from across Sussex County gathered in Sussex Borough for the 106th Annual Sussex County Firemen’s Association Inspection Day and Parade, where Vernon Township Fire Department Company No. 1 earned second place in the refurbished antique apparatus category.

Vernon firefighters put in additional hours outside their regular duties to clean and prepare the company’s antique engine, ladder truck and command vehicles for the annual event. Their work paid off with recognition for the department’s refurbished antique apparatus.

The parade, hosted by Sussex Fire Department, brought together volunteer fire companies to display their apparatus and take part in a longstanding county fire service tradition. The association’s parade rules establish judging procedures and awards for participating companies.
