Bordentown Township, N.J. — October 13 — Three members of Bordentown Township Fire District #1 celebrated a significant career achievement after finishing their probationary year and earning their Black Shields.

Firefighters Donte Marrow, Ziya Oflu, and Anthony Dudas completed a year-long probationary period, which required months of hard work, training, and dedication to the fire service.

The occasion was marked by a long-standing tradition within the department. Fellow firefighters gave the three a celebratory soaking, making their uniforms wet but also creating a fun and lighthearted moment during the event.

Successfully completing a probationary year is a major step for new firefighters as they continue to build their skills and understand the responsibilities of serving their department and community. Ongoing training and professional development are essential in preparing fire service personnel for emergency situations. The National Fire Protection Association’s NFPA 1400, Standard on Fire Service Training, offers guidance for training and ensuring responders are ready for emergencies.

Bordentown Township Fire District #1 honored Marrow, Oflu, and Dudas for reaching this milestone and completing their probationary service. Their accomplishment highlighted the effort needed to gain experience and prepare for future service.

The Black Shields symbolized their progress within the fire service, while the traditional soaking added a recognizable element of firefighter camaraderie to the celebration.
