Bordentown Township, N.J. — October 9 — Members of the Bordentown Township Fire District #1 visited Over The Rainbow during Fire Prevention Week to teach young children essential fire safety and emergency response practices.

Firefighters engaged with students by discussing ways to prevent fires, the importance of working smoke alarms, and what actions to take during an emergency. This visit provided children with a chance to learn directly from emergency responders in a comfortable and familiar environment.

The fire department’s outreach initiative aimed to build safety awareness from an early age. By introducing fire safety concepts to young students, firefighters helped reinforce important lessons that can also be shared at home with parents and caregivers.

Smoke alarms were a key topic during the visit. According to the National Fire Protection Association, smoke alarms should be installed inside every bedroom, outside sleeping areas, and on every level of a home. Residents are also encouraged to test their alarms regularly and create a home fire escape plan.

Community visits like this enable fire departments to connect with local families and support prevention efforts beyond just emergency response. Early education can help children become more familiar with fire safety procedures and the role of firefighters.

Bordentown Township Fire District #1 expressed its gratitude to the staff and students at Over The Rainbow for welcoming its members and supporting the department’s fire prevention education efforts.
