Allendale, N.J. — October 8 — Members of the Allendale Fire Department took part in a combined training exercise that focused on drafting techniques and pump operations. This practice allowed firefighters to refine essential water supply abilities, enhance their teamwork, and train alongside fire departments from neighboring areas.

Drafting is a method that enables fire engines to draw water from a stationary source, like a pond or a temporary tank, when hydrants are not accessible or are insufficient for the demands of a fire. Firefighters need to ensure a steady water supply and handle pumps safely to support fire hose operations during emergencies.

Training in pump operations also helps crews learn about water flow, pressure regulation, and the proper use of equipment.

These abilities are crucial when firefighters must set up and keep a strong water supply during an incident.

The joint training session offered firefighters a chance to review standard operating procedures, reinforce team collaboration, and share knowledge with personnel from nearby departments. Engaging in collaborative exercises during training helps crews get acquainted with various practices and enhances coordination during mutual aid responses.

The New Jersey Division of Fire Safety and fire training programs throughout the state provide hands-on instruction in drafting, water supply, and pump operations to assist firefighters in developing the necessary skills for emergency situations.

The Allendale Fire Department continues to prioritize regular training as part of its commitment to maintaining preparedness and delivering fire protection services to the community.
