Oceanville, N.J. — October 5 — Members of the Oceanville Volunteer Fire Company joined firefighters from other Galloway fire departments at Assumption Regional Catholic School to promote fire safety and teach students how to prevent fires during Fire Prevention Week.
The event aimed at educating students on practical ways to lower fire risks and respond safely in case of an emergency.
Firefighters took the opportunity to share key safety information and encourage families to take steps to protect their homes from fire.
The fire department focused on important safety tips such as testing smoke alarms regularly, keeping flammable materials away from heat sources, and creating a home fire escape plan.
Students were reminded to ensure that everyone in their household knows two escape routes from each room and to identify a safe outdoor meeting spot.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, working smoke alarms should be placed in every bedroom, outside sleeping areas, and on every level of a home. The organization also suggests testing smoke alarms monthly and practicing home fire escape plans twice a year.
The school visit highlighted the role of fire departments in reducing community risks and educating the public. By engaging with students directly, firefighters helped reinforce essential safety practices that families can use at home.
The Oceanville Volunteer Fire Company urged residents to review their escape plans, check their smoke alarms, and talk about fire safety with their family members as part of Fire Prevention Week.
