ALPHA, N.J. — October 9 — Alpha Public School students participated in a fire safety education program that offered a firsthand look at firefighting gear and imparted key safety lessons.
The Alpha Volunteer Fire Company hosted pre-kindergarten and kindergarten pupils at its station in the morning. The yearly visit let young students meet their local firefighters and get to know the fire station and the responders who protect their community.
Firefighters worked with first, second, and third-grade students in the afternoon to review fire prevention and emergency safety. The students observed a firefighter donning full turnout gear and a self-contained breathing apparatus ( SCBA) throughout the program. The demo clarified why first responders don protective gear and why they may appear and sound distinct during crises.
Pupils also discovered the tools and gear that fire trucks carry. A key moment of the day occurred when students got to spray water, offering them practical insight into firefighter equipment.
