Milmay, N.J. — September 22 — Members of the Milmay Volunteer Fire Company participated in a regional water shuttle drill in Estell Manor.During the training, crews transported more than 50,000 gallons of water as part of the exercise.
Engine 1241 was responsible for operating the hydrant at the Dorothy Volunteer Fire Company, Station 12-7. Several tenders and tankers from nearby fire departments joined the effort, working together to transfer water between supply locations and assist with simulated fire operations.
Water shuttle drills allow firefighters to practice delivering water in areas where hydrants are not available or in limited supply.
In this exercise, tankers delivered water to a designated drop-off point, where fire crews transferred it into portable tanks for use by fire engines. Smooth coordination among drivers, pump operators, and ground crews ensured a steady water supply during simulated firefighting scenarios.
The drill also allowed participating departments to review how they use equipment, maneuver vehicles, and communicate with each other. These skills are vital for responding to incidents that require a large amount of water and support from multiple fire companies.
The Milmay Volunteer Fire Company, located at 225 Broad Street in Milmay, serves the residents of Buena Vista Township as a volunteer fire department. The exercise ended with the participating crews successfully moving over 50,000 gallons of water.
This training reinforced the importance of regional collaboration and ongoing practice in preparing firefighters to respond to emergencies throughout the area.
