Mays Landing, N.J. — October 3 — Members of the Mays Landing Fire Department participated in training sessions focused on pump and ladder operations throughout the week. The training was intended to keep skills sharp and ensure crews are ready for emergency situations.

During the sessions, firefighters had the chance to review essential equipment operations and practice the skills needed during fireground assignments. Pump operations were crucial for delivering water through hose lines, while ladder work was important for accessing buildings and elevated areas during emergencies.

Firefighters who operate pumps must have a good understanding of water supply, pump controls, and pressure requirements to maintain a steady flow of water for firefighting crews. Ladder operations also require proper placement, stable footing, and awareness of overhead and structural risks.

The department’s training highlighted the importance of regular practice to support safe and coordinated operations.

The National Fire Protection Association’s 2026 NFPA 1400 standard provided guidance for fire service training, including apparatus operations and emergency scene procedures.

The Mays Landing Fire Department, also referred to as Reliance Hose Company No. 1, was based at 6081 Reliance Avenue and served the community of Hamilton Township. The department offered ongoing training to help members improve their skills and be prepared for emergency calls.

Ongoing drills helped firefighters strengthen teamwork, become more familiar with equipment, and ensure they are ready for incidents that require effective water delivery and proper ladder placement.
