Egg Harbor Township, N.J. — October 17 — Members of the Farmington Volunteer Fire Company No.4 visited Kids Choice Academy to promote fire safety and teach young children about the importance of fire prevention during October’s Fire Prevention Month.

The visit aimed to help students learn fundamental fire safety practices and form safe habits from an early age. Firefighters took the chance to encourage children to identify possible dangers and understand the value of following safety rules during an emergency.

Fire prevention education is crucial in lowering risks both at home and within the community. According to the National Fire Protection Association, families should keep smoke alarms in working condition, find at least two escape routes from each room, and practice a home fire escape plan twice a year.

School visits also offer firefighters a chance to build stronger connections with local families and reinforce safety messages beyond emergency situations. Parents and caregivers can support these lessons by talking about escape routes, choosing a safe meeting spot outside, and reminding children to stay outside once they have left a burning building.

Farmington Volunteer Fire Company No. 4, based at 301 Maple Avenue in Egg Harbor Township, was established in 1936 and officially incorporated in 1938.The company has continued to serve the community by providing public education, training, and volunteer services.
