Dorothy, N.J. — September 22 — Members of the Dorothy Volunteer Fire Company carried out a water supply drill on Second Avenue. They used designated fill sites at Dorothy VFC Station 1 and Stephen’s Lake to practice the process of supplying water during firefighting operations.
The main goal of the drill was to improve coordination of water resources and support fire suppression efforts. Ensuring a reliable water supply is crucial during firefighting, particularly when fire hydrants are not available or limited. Firefighters need to be ready to transport water from nearby sources and keep a consistent supply for the crews at the scene.
By utilizing multiple fill sites, the firefighters had the chance to practice various steps involved in water supply operations. These steps include positioning equipment properly, working together as a team, and maintaining an organized response. These skills are essential for handling structure fires and other incidents that require more water resources.
The Dorothy Volunteer Fire Company is based at Station 1, located at 70 Tuckahoe Road in Dorothy, New Jersey. The department also has a fleet that includes Tender 1270, which is used to support water supply activities.
Regular training exercises allow firefighters to review their procedures, improve their teamwork, and spot areas that might need more attention. Water supply training also helps crews prepare to collaborate with other departments during major incidents.
The September 22 drill highlighted the importance of planning, coordination, and dependable water delivery in ensuring effective firefighting operations.
