Mays Landing, N.J. — October 9 — Members of the Cologne Volunteer Fire Company participated in Fire Prevention Month by promoting fire safety education and raising community awareness. They helped students learn how to identify potential fire hazards and respond safely in case of an emergency.

The department's educational efforts emphasized the importance of teaching children about fire prevention, safe behaviors, and emergency preparedness at an early age. These lessons enable students to make safer decisions at home and share vital safety information with their families.

School visits also allowed firefighters to build connections with the community beyond emergency responses. By explaining fundamental fire safety practices, they helped reinforce the importance of preparation and taking action early to minimize fire risks.

The National Fire Protection Association offers educational materials for children and schools, covering topics like smoke alarms, home escape plans, cooking safety, and electrical hazards. These resources assist fire departments in educating residents on how to prevent fires and respond effectively when an alarm is triggered.

For volunteer fire companies, public education is a key aspect of community service, alongside emergency response and training. The Cologne Volunteer Fire Company is based at 2870 Cologne Avenue in Mays Landing, New Jersey, and provides services to the local community.

Fire Prevention Month served as a chance to highlight simple safety practices and encourage families to prepare for emergencies in advance.
