Northborough, Mass. — October 1 — In Northborough, public safety personnel prioritized fire prevention and preparedness by participating in a construction planning review and testing fire protection equipment at a nearby business.
Town department heads visited a proposed construction site during the week for a joint review. The meeting gave officials a chance to talk with project representatives about fire department access, water supply, emergency response needs and life-safety concerns before construction started.
Firefighters examined a fire department connection at a nearby business. The connection permits responding fire crews to provide water to compatible building fire protection systems, like standpipes or sprinkler systems. Checking the condition and operation helps identify potential problems before an emergency arises.
Fire departments also handle these activities as part of their non-emergency duties. Building evaluations and machinery checks spot safety problems, ensure rule adherence, and boost incident preparedness.
