Canton, Conn. — September 25 — The Canton Fire and EMS Department has acquired new equipment to improve firefighter safety and emergency response, made possible by grant funding from the Canton Community Health Fund.

The grant funded the department's acquisition of a Pack Tracker system for its SCBA, a specialized ventilation saw with a bullet chain, and new water rescue rope equipment for Farmington River operations.

The Pack Tracker system allows firefighters and incident commanders to monitor the location, assignment, and status of SCBA packs during emergency operations. Increased visibility can promote staff responsibility and assist officers in spotting items that require checking, maintenance, or return to storage.

The new ventilation saw gives crews another tool for ventilation operations, while new rope equipment strengthens the department's resources for water rescue incidents along the Farmington River.

Officials from the department stated that keeping firefighters safe is a main concern. Text to paraphrase Grant funding also helps the
