Dover, N.H. — October 16 — Members of Dover Firefighters IAFF Local 1312 participated in confined space training with the Durham Professional Firefighters throughout the week. The training included exercises that focused on technical rescue techniques and firefighter safety protocols.
This collaborative training provided an opportunity for firefighters from both departments to work together and enhance their skills in handling incidents involving confined spaces. These spaces can include tanks, utility areas, and other locations where entry and exit are restricted, making rescue operations more complex.
Confined space incidents often present risks such as hazardous atmospheres, limited airflow, and other dangers that require thorough preparation before rescuers enter. According to the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), critical components of confined space rescue training include air monitoring, ventilation, the use of personal protective equipment, communication systems, and retrieval procedures.
Hands-on practice also allows emergency responders to review equipment operation, assign team roles, and follow safety procedures during rescue efforts. Training with other departments enables firefighters to exchange knowledge and build better coordination, which can be vital during real emergencies.
For Dover firefighters, the training contributed to their ongoing professional growth and emphasized the importance of collaboration between different fire service organizations. Routine technical rescue training ensures that crews remain prepared for incidents that demand specialized skills beyond regular fire suppression and medical emergencies.
Dover Firefighters IAFF Local 1312 expressed gratitude to the Durham Professional Firefighters for inviting their members to take part in the training. The joint effort underscored the significance of shared training in promoting firefighter safety and improving emergency response effectiveness.
