Meriden, N.H. — October 5 — Members of the Plainfield Municipal Fire Department carried out a water supply training exercise on Monday, October 5, using Engines 2 and 3 along with a ground monitor at a local dry hydrant.

The drill allowed firefighters to practice setting up their equipment, establishing a water supply, and operating a ground monitor.

By using both engines, the firefighters were able to work through apparatus positioning and water delivery procedures while coordinating their efforts at the training location.

A dry hydrant connects to a nearby static water source, such as a pond, through a fixed pipe. Fire apparatus can link to this system and pump water when there is no pressurized municipal hydrant available. These systems are particularly helpful in areas where homes and roads may be located beyond the reach of public water supplies.

Ground monitors are used to deliver a large volume of water from a fixed position and can assist in fire suppression when crews need to apply water over a wider area.

Training with this equipment helps firefighters gain familiarity with setup, operation, and coordination between different vehicles.

The Plainfield Fire Department serves the community from stations in both Plainfield and Meriden. The department depends on volunteer members and holds regular training sessions to ensure preparedness for emergency situations.

The training exercise on October 5 helped reinforce essential water supply skills that are crucial for responding to fires in areas without nearby municipal hydrants.
