Westerly, R.I. — October 8 — Volunteers from the Westerly Fire Department participated in a joint training exercise with firefighters from the Watch Hill Fire Department, Misquamicut Fire Department, and Pawcatuck Fire Department on Thursday, October 8. The training took place at an acquired structure, which is used for practical exercises. This type of structure allows firefighters to practice their skills and review procedures in realistic conditions that are different from classroom settings.

The session provided an opportunity for crews from all four departments to train together, helping to improve coordination, communication, and teamwork among personnel who may work together during future emergencies.

The exercise also allowed members to gain a better understanding of each other’s operations and methods.

The Westerly Fire Department often offers training sessions for its volunteer members, including hands-on instruction and advanced certifications in areas such as firefighter operations, rescue boat operations, rope rescue, and vehicle extrication.

The department has also conducted joint training with Pawcatuck firefighters, highlighting the benefits of regional collaboration and shared experience.

The Watch Hill Fire Department hosted the training on October 8 and invited the other departments to take part. The event supported ongoing efforts to maintain preparedness and enhance coordination among neighboring fire agencies. Joint training helps crews become more familiar with each other before emergencies occur, which leads to safer and more effective responses across different departments.
