Monmouth, ME — September 24 — Members of the Monmouth Fire Department participated in a forcible entry training session, using door and lock props borrowed from the Maine Fire Service Institute (MFSI).
This training allowed firefighters to practice methods for gaining entry through locked doors. Even though Monmouth has few commercial buildings, firefighters might still encounter locked doors during fires or other emergencies. Being able to evaluate a door and select the right technique can assist crews in reaching a fire or a person in need while keeping risks under control at the scene.
The Maine Fire Service Institute offers fire departments in Maine training props and equipment to support practical instruction.
Its forcible entry systems let firefighters practice with various door types, opening directions, and frames. This equipment helps crews develop hands-on skills without depending on real building doors for repeated training.
The session highlighted the importance of regular department drills, even when certain situations are not typical in the local area. Being familiar with tools and entry methods enables firefighters to make informed decisions when access is restricted.
For Monmouth firefighters, the exercise offered an opportunity to review important skills and get ready for emergencies that might require swift and controlled entry. Ongoing practice helps keep the department prepared for a variety of calls.
