Chelsea, ME— September 23 — Members of the Chelsea Fire Department carried out their yearly fire hose testing to check their equipment and make sure it stays safe, dependable, and prepared for emergencies.
The testing took place on property provided by Togus VA, and CMHT Inc. was responsible for conducting the tests and confirming that the department’s hose met the required standards for use.
Fire hose is a crucial component in fire suppression activities, moving water from fire engines and other water supplies to firefighters at the scene. Regular inspection and testing help find any damage, leaks, or other issues that might affect the hose’s performance during an emergency.
CMHT Inc. offers fire hose and nozzle pressure testing, checks for and replaces gaskets when necessary, and documents the results of each test. They also mark any equipment that fails testing so it can be taken out of service. These actions allow departments to monitor the condition of their gear and fix problems before a fire occurs.
The National Fire Protection Association establishes guidelines for the inspection, maintenance, testing, and replacement of fire hose and related equipment. These standards help ensure reliable equipment and keep firefighters safe during emergency operations.
The Chelsea Fire Department expressed their appreciation to Togus VA for allowing their crews to use their property and to CMHT Inc. for performing the testing. Routine equipment maintenance remains a vital part of the department’s preparedness and its commitment to protecting the community.
