Killington, VT — September 18 — Killington Fire & Rescue Services took part in a multi-department training exercise in Plymouth, which centered on rural water supply operations and tanker shuttle procedures. The training took place during a simulated structure fire at the Old Hawk Inn.

The exercise involved firefighters from Plymouth, Bridgewater, Ludlow, Proctorsville, Pomfret-Teago, and Woodstock.

Killington’s team brought an engine and a tanker to the drill and transported about 9,000 gallons of water during the activity, carrying 3,000 gallons with each trip.

Firefighters set up two portable water tanks to provide a continuous water supply for two fire suppression units, including Killington Engine 1. This setup helped crews practice transferring water from tanker trucks to portable tanks and supplying fire engines during an emergency response.

Training in rural water supply is essential for fire departments that may not have access to fire hydrants near an incident.

Tanker shuttle operations enable firefighters to move water from a supply source to the scene, ensuring a steady flow for firefighting efforts.

The drill allowed the participating departments to practice communication, teamwork, and water delivery before working together in a real emergency. Killington Fire & Rescue Services expressed gratitude to Plymouth Fire for hosting the event and to all the departments that participated.
