Bridgewater, Mass. — October 1 — Captain Craig Nedell from the Bridgewater Fire Department went to the annual three-day training conference hosted by the Massachusetts Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators. The conference focused on fatal fire investigation.
The conference included the training program " Fatal Fire Investigation: How the Human Body Burns and What Is Left for Investigators at the Fatal Fire Scene." Dr. Fatal Fire Research and Education's director, forensic anthropologist Elayne Pope, presented the program.
Training involved classroom instruction and controlled live-burn demonstrations. The investigators examined the sites to analyze the impact of fire on human remains and the evidence remaining. The department stated that humans were not used in the demonstrations.
Fire investigators had the chance to study fire-scene evidence and improve their grasp of the investigative process after fatal fires through this training.
