Commack, NY - Eight volunteer firefighters from the Commack Fire Department returned home this week following four days of intensive, high-stakes tactical training at the prestigious Fire Department Training Network (FDTN) facility in Indiana.

During the immersive multi-day program concluding Friday, October 9, 2026, the Commack contingent joined first responders from across the United States to tackle realistic, live-fire evolutions.

The rigorous curriculum saw participants respond to more than 30 full-scale simulated working structure fires across a diverse range of residential, commercial, and multi-story occupancy mockups.

Crews rotated through demanding roles under realistic fireground conditions, mastering interior fire attack, heavy search-and-rescue operations, high-heat hose line advancement, and thermal ventilation tactics.

Department leadership commended the eight volunteers for dedicating their personal time to sharpen critical life-safety techniques alongside top national instructors, emphasizing that continuous advanced training ensures Commack firefighters remain prepared to protect their local community under the most demanding conditions.
