Holbrook, NY - Volunteer firefighters from the Holbrook Fire Department spent Sunday, October 4, 2026, conducting hands-on wildland operational drills focused on brush truck handling, rough-terrain navigation, and specialized tactical recovery.
The weekend training evolution gave department personnel practical experience operating specialized wildland fire apparatus in challenging field conditions. Members cycled through intensive stations covering complex off-road driving techniques, low-traction navigation, and mobile pump-and-roll water delivery systems essential for chasing down fast-moving brush, field, and woods fires.
In addition to water application maneuvers, firefighters drilled extensively on vehicle self-extrication and field stabilization, deploying high-capacity winching and recovery systems to safely pull rigs through deep mud, soft sand, and obstructed timber terrain.
Department leadership noted that regular, hands-on mechanical and tactical training with brush apparatus ensures Holbrook crews maintain maximum operational readiness to rapidly mitigate specialized off-road and wildland emergencies across the region.
