Richmond, R.I. — September 30 — Firefighters from the Richmond-Carolina Fire District conducted building search training at the Hope Valley-Wyoming Fire District’s burn building, using artificial smoke to create low-visibility conditions similar to those encountered during a structure fire.

Crews entered the training facility and looked for simulated victims, honing their search methods, communication skills, and coordinated extraction procedures. The exercise challenged members to work methodically while visibility was limited and to maintain contact with their team members throughout the search.

Junior firefighters also took part in the training evolutions, giving them an opportunity to develop experience in a controlled environment. The district’s full-time firefighter and fire marshal served as incident command, practicing oversight and incident management while crews operated inside the building.
