Harrisville, R.I. — September 14 — Members of the Harrisville Fire Department participated in hands-on auto extrication training on Monday, September 14, to enhance their abilities in handling motor vehicle crashes where people are trapped inside.

The exercise allowed firefighters to practice vehicle rescue techniques and gain more experience with the tools used to access damaged vehicles.

Auto extrication may involve securing the vehicle, handling broken glass, and utilizing specialized equipment to remove doors or other parts of the vehicle safely.

These skills enable crews to respond in an organized and coordinated way while ensuring the safety of both patients and emergency personnel.

Training also enables firefighters to review equipment usage and improve communication before dealing with similar situations during an actual emergency.

The department expressed appreciation to Pedro of Harrisville Auto Towing & Repair for once again supplying vehicles for the training.

These practice vehicles provided firefighters with a realistic environment to work through rescue techniques without the stress of an active emergency scene.

The Rhode Island State Fire Marshal’s Office includes vehicle extrication in its firefighter training programs, where members practice with up-to-date rescue tools and realistic scenarios.

Ongoing hands-on training helps firefighters keep their skills current as vehicle designs and safety systems evolve.

The Harrisville Fire Department offers fire, rescue, and emergency medical services in the Harrisville area of Burrillville.

Regular training remains a crucial part of preparing personnel for the variety of incidents they may face while serving the community.
