Hancock, ME — September 22 — Two members from the Hancock Maine Volunteer Fire Department carried out annual pump testing on the department’s fire equipment on September 22. All the trucks passed the tests without any reported problems, which confirmed that the pumps were fully prepared for emergency use.

During the testing, firefighters drew water from a pond and operated the pumps at various pressures and engine speeds, measured in revolutions per minute (RPM). These tests helped ensure that the pumping systems would function as expected during firefighting operations.

Pump testing was a key part of the maintenance routine for the fire apparatus. Fire engines depend on reliable pumps to move water through hose lines during structure fires and other incidents. The testing also allowed the department to spot any performance issues before they could affect operations at an actual emergency scene.

The National Fire Protection Association’s NFPA 1911 standard covers the inspection, maintenance, and testing of fire apparatus. Regular testing helps departments monitor pump performance and keep equipment in good working condition.

The Hancock Maine Volunteer Fire Department provided fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical services in Hancock and supported neighboring communities through mutual-aid agreements. Maintaining the equipment in good working order was essential for fulfilling these responsibilities.

The successful test results meant the department could continue its operations without any pump-related issues found during the checks. This effort also showed how important routine maintenance is in ensuring that volunteer fire departments are ready to respond when needed.
