Deer Isle, ME — September 14 — The Deer Isle Volunteer Fire Department participated in annual fire apparatus pump testing on September 14 alongside firefighters from Stonington and Sedgwick. This testing was essential to ensure that the departments’ vehicles and pumping systems were properly maintained and prepared for any emergency response.

Pump testing is a vital part of maintaining fire apparatus. The process verified that the pumps could deliver water at the correct flow rate and pressure during firefighting operations. It also helped identify any potential issues that might impact performance during an emergency.

Fire apparatus pumps are critical for delivering water through hose lines during structure fires and other incidents.

When pumps function reliably, firefighters can maintain a steady water supply while working to control a fire and safeguard nearby properties.

The National Fire Protection Association’s NFPA 1911 standard sets guidelines for testing fire apparatus pumps.

It requires testing at least once a year, as well as after any major repairs or modifications to the pump or related equipment.

Coordinating the testing allowed the departments to assess their equipment’s preparedness and support safe operations.

For volunteer departments that serve island and coastal communities, having dependable apparatus is essential for being ready for calls throughout the year.

The Deer Isle Volunteer Fire Department, located at PO Box 275 in Deer Isle, Maine, continued its maintenance efforts to ensure its apparatus remains ready to protect residents and neighboring communities.
