Wilton, ME — October 5 — Wilton Fire & Rescue hosted students from grades 1 through 3 at Cushing Community School and Academy Hill School on October 5 as part of Fire Prevention Week activities aimed at promoting fire safety and emergency preparedness.
Firefighters shared basic fire safety information, demonstrated emergency response procedures, and introduced students to the 911 phone system.
The students had the chance to tour fire trucks and experience the department’s educational smoke trailer, which helped them understand what happens during a fire emergency.
The smoke trailer provided a hands-on learning environment where students could explore fire safety concepts and learn about the importance of following safe escape procedures.
The visit also allowed firefighters to link classroom lessons with real-world emergency response equipment and practices.
The department acknowledged Darlene Nile for her time and effort in creating artwork inside the trailer. Her work enhanced the educational experience and was very well received by the students.
Wilton Fire & Rescue also expressed gratitude to the department members who volunteered their time to make the event a success.
Those recognized included Senior Captain George Guptill, Deputy Chief Michael Lilley, Lieutenant Cody Blodgett, Chief Sonny Dunham, Captain Justin Lowe, Firefighter Stephani Ellis, Firefighter Steve Lakin, Captain Cody Henry, and special helper Luke Henry.
The department planned additional visits throughout the community during the week to continue its efforts in fire prevention education.
School outreach supports the department’s mission of protecting lives and property through prevention, education, and emergency response.
