Hinesburg, VT — October 11 — Members of the Hinesburg Fire Department recently participated in training focused on civilian ladder rescue. During the session, they practiced techniques for safely removing individuals from windows located at heights using ground ladders. The training emphasized methods that firefighters can apply when people are unable to exit a building through standard exits.
Since Hinesburg does not have a dedicated facility for such exercises, the department used training grounds provided by the Shelburne Fire Department.
This collaboration allowed firefighters to gain hands-on experience in a suitable environment while utilizing shared resources from a neighboring department.
When conducting civilian ladder rescues, firefighters must choose the appropriate ladder, position it safely, ensure a secure working area, and coordinate with their team members.
Consistent practice helps improve communication, the placement of ladders, and the safe evacuation of people during emergencies.
The Hinesburg Fire Department offers fire, rescue, and emergency medical services to residents of Hinesburg and St.
George. It also responds to mutual-aid calls and collaborates with nearby agencies during critical situations. According to the department's official website, it handles approximately 600 incidents each year, including responses to mutual-aid requests.
The joint training demonstrated the importance of working together between departments.
By using shared training facilities, Hinesburg firefighters were able to develop specialized rescue abilities and better prepare for the challenges they may encounter while serving their communities.
The department expressed its appreciation to the Shelburne Fire Department for offering the training space and supporting the ongoing development of its firefighters.
