FBI SPECIAL AGENT DICK BERRY LOVED THE FIRE SERVICE

Richard “Dick” Berry, 86, was a volunteer firefighter in River Edge, assigned to Company 1. His full time career was serving as a special agent with the FBI in Manhattan. Dick Berry passed away in October.
Berry joined the REFD in 1968. He held every position, including Chief of Department in 1977. In addition, he was company president from 2014 to 2018. He also served as an O.E.M. coordinator.
He loved the fire service, and he possessed a special interest in city rescue companies and their operations. He was a collector of firematic items and books. In addition, he was an honorary FDNY Deputy Chief and a life member of the Jersey City Gong Club.
Berry enjoyed mentoring young firefighters and making sure they were well trained.
“He will be deeply missed around the firehouse, not just for his leadership and wisdom, but for the stories he shared and the wisdom he passed down to generations of firefighters,” a REFD memorial Facebook post read.
