Chepachet, R.I. — October 6 — Members of the Chepachet Fire Department, West Glocester Fire Department, and Harmony Fire Department visited West Glocester Elementary School during Fire Safety Week to educate students on fire prevention and the responsibilities of local firefighters.
The firefighters showcased their equipment, explained how the tools are used in emergency situations, and offered students the chance to participate in hands-on activities.
This visit allowed students to become more familiar with firefighting gear and learn about the important role that fire crews play in protecting their community.
The event also provided an opportunity for firefighters to discuss fundamental fire safety practices and explain how being prepared can help people respond effectively during an emergency.
By visiting the school, the crews were able to engage with younger residents and share vital safety information in a setting where students could ask questions and learn through direct experience.
The three fire departments serve communities within Glocester, Rhode Island, where local fire districts provide fire and rescue services.
The Chepachet Fire Department is based at 1170 Putnam Pike, while Harmony and West Glocester maintain their own stations and have their own response resources.
Fire Safety Week offered a chance for the departments to enhance community education and promote safe habits both at home and in school.
Such programs help students gain a better understanding of the role of firefighters, the importance of emergency equipment, and what actions to take in the event of a fire. The involvement of the departments emphasized the importance of collaboration between local emergency services and schools.
