Standish, ME — September 24 — Approximately 100 students from Bonny Eagle Middle School took part in the Blueprint of Standish Job Shadowing Day at Standish Town Hall. During the event, they had the opportunity to explore various career opportunities in public safety and other municipal services.
The program featured hands-on experiences with Standish Fire-EMS, allowing students to learn about the tools, equipment, and vehicles used by the fire department. Fire service personnel shared insights into their work and demonstrated the equipment used during emergency responses.
Other departments involved in the event were Standish Public Works and Standish Parks and Recreation. Staff from these departments explained their roles and provided students with an understanding of the different jobs that contribute to the well-being of a community.
For fire and emergency services, events like this help introduce young students to the skills, teamwork, and public service aspects of the profession. Early exposure to these careers can help students grasp the training and preparation needed for emergency response roles.
Standish Fire-EMS provides a range of public safety services, including fire suppression, emergency medical care, water rescue, vehicle extrication, and other critical services to the community. The department also plays a key role in public education and promoting fire safety initiatives.
The job shadowing experience allowed students to link their classroom learning with real-world career paths.
Organizers expressed their appreciation for the involvement of both the participating departments and the students, who contributed to the success of the program.
