— September 29, 2026 — Members of the Proctorsville Volunteer Fire Department’s swift water rescue team joined a Chester Technical Rescue member for a Saturday morning training session at Cavendish Gorge on the Black River.

With Dean from Green Mountain Power coordinating, the team organized a dam release to give rescue workers a chance to practice swimming in turbulent water.

Participants had the chance to practice their water skills in river settings while further honing their rescue abilities during the session. Training in moving water is a crucial component of equipping rescue teams to handle emergencies where individuals are trapped in rivers or other swiftly flowing waterways.
